Pioneer GM Series Amplifiers A Solid Foundation Adding an amplifier to your vehicle redefines your in-car experience, and can completely change the way you listen to your favorite music. The Pioneer GM series amplifiers are designed to add loads of much-needed volume, chest-thumping power, and heightened clarity. Solid Value GM series amplifiers provide exceptional value. Get more watts-per-dollar compared to competing brands, and save money to build other components in your system. Bridgeable Operation These bridgeable amplifiers also allow for more power as your needs grow. By combining the power of multiple channels to drive different system configurations, you can take your system to a whole new level of sound. GM-6400F Features 600-Watt Max Power Anybody have a problem with more power? We didn't think so. The GM-6400F packs an impressive wallop despite its small size, with 760-watt max power capability. It can run 60 watts x 4 at 4 ohms, 150 watts x 2 at 4 ohms, or 75 watts x 4 at 2 ohms--whichever best fits your system configuration. Built-In Crossover (80Hz Low-Pass Filter) Built into the GM-6400F is a very smart crossover network. It works like a gateway, routing the big bass signals (80Hz or lower, at -12dB/octave) to the speaker that handles them best, filtering out higher-frequency signals to that speaker. This optimizes your system's efficiency and delivers the best possible sound quality. Speaker Level Inputs The GM-6400F's speaker level inputs allow you to connect your OEM unit (or any unit that doesn't have the typical RCA-type inputs) without having to buy add-on adapters. The install goes faster, you save money, and you've got a Pioneer amp in your vehicle. Gain Control What is power without control? To accommodate the varying range of signal levels coming from today's factory and aftermarket radios, all of Pioneer's GM-series amplifiers feature adjustable gain controls. This means that no matter what kind of radio is connected to this amplifier, the appropriate gain control adjustment can be made to ensure loud, clear, distortion-free music. And even if the gain control level is set improperly, Pioneer's Gain Control Caution feature will automatically reduce the amplifier's output until the headunit volume is decreased to acceptable levels. This added layer of protection helps to prevent damage from occurring to the amplifier and the speakers connected to it due to improper gain control adjustments. Bass Boost Selectable 50Hz Bass Boost gives you more control over how your music sounds. It lets you set the optimal bass level for each speaker/sub connected to the GM-6400F, so the tone controls from your headunit can do what they do best. And because this is selectable bass boost, you can set the level at 0dB, 6dB, or 12dB, whichever sounds best to you. You cannot knock this performance level and a trusted brand for this price By El Geraldo Like the other guys said - it is big, it is heavy. Big and heavy suggests big heatsink, which you want. I haven't opened it up to see how well built it is inside, but the bottom cover is made of that cheap, thin, plated steel that they make generic PC cases out of. In contrast, my 350W Rockford Fosgate sub amp is all cast aluminum and chrome-plated, thick steel. The Pioneer runs a bit hotter than the Rockford amp and the screw terminals are much cheaper than the enclosed terminals of the Rockford, but you gets what you pay for. I have this amp mounted vertically on stand-offs on the side of my trunk space, with a 120mm PC fan blowing across it. Only gets warm then, even when you start off with the trunk interior at 100°F. I'm playing a 4-year old Pioneer head unit via the RCA jacks into this amp which drives a pair of [...] 6x8 Pioneer 3-way front speakers and some [...] 6x8 Infinity 2-way speakers in the rear. Sounds nice and clear - no noticeable distortion at a fairly high volume level (that I can't stand to listen to for more than a few minutes at a time). With only the head unit (rated at 4x50W, which is supposedly 4x25W RMS) powering the same speakers, I had to use its built-in HPF to take away the bass below 50Hz, else it would be distortion-a-plenty. Now with this amp hooked up, I can feel the front doors vibrating again and no distortion! Do yourself a favor - ignore the fairy-tale power rating on your head unit and use a separate 4-channel amp for your main speakers. It just sounds so much clearer and you can enjoy the full amount of bass that your speakers can produce. You don't have to listen at a very loud volume to hear the difference. This is the first time I've bothered getting an amp for the main speakers in a car (and I've been driving since 1988). I've upgraded head units and added small subs, but this has made the most overall difference in sound quality. Next time I change cars, a 4-channel amp is the first thing I'm going to install. Wish I'd figured this out years ago! 10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Can't be beat for the price! By E. Rodriguez I installed this amp in my F-150 two weeks ago and wanted to test it out a bit before submitting my review and so far, I couldn't be happier. My mids and highs are extremely clear now and I can actually hear small details in music that I couldn't hear before with just my pioneer head unit powering my speakers. I'm using this amp together with a GM-5400t bridged powering a 10" Kicker CVT and the systems sounds extremely clear even at high volumes with no distortion. Being a relatively cheap amp, I wasn't expecting much out of it but I'm truly impressed by it's output and clarity. I also read that the previous version of this amp the GM-6300f had some overheating issues but I think they have been resolved with this model. I have two amps mounted behind my rear seat with barely any ventilation and neither of them have turned off once. I'm sure that there are better amps out there but in this price range, I can't imagine one being better. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Awesome 4 Channel power By S. Carlson I love this amplifier. I have it powering 4 Kicker 6.5" speakers at 4 ohms and it has been performing admirably. I have it mounted in a fairly spacious trunk, but it appears to give off very little heat even when running for extended periods of time so I'd imagine it would function just as well under a car's seat. That being said, it is quite a large amp...bigger than the pictures would lead you to believe. Controls are simple and well marked, and the high pass filter works extremely well. Highly recommended as a platform for car surround speakers. See all 11 customer reviews...
