Wilcomb Overall, this receiver is a good value for money, but do not assume anything. Many of the features you would expect from an A / V receiver is patched in this unit. For example - the HDMI only supports pass-through, meaning that they passed the signal to your TV or projector, but if you want 5.1 sound through your speakers, you connect the audio to the receiver separately. The recipient will not pull the audio signal from the HDMI feed, even if the cable carries. Similarly, if you connect analog (component or RCA) to the receiver, the receiver will not send them via the HDMI output. You need an analog output from running the receiver to TV or projector to transport the signal from these sources. I'm still happy with this unit, which is not as perfect as a solution you'd expect from a home theater system and many of the features I took for granted when I saw all inputs turned out to be false assumptions 19 of 21 people found the following review helpful. This Sony receiver is a good one! By Larry Xie, CA, USA I am quite happy with this receiver. But I have some minor complaints. It was not clear to me (not specifically mentioned in the menu) you can not use the video "out" to increase the video input on the TV and I discovered that I had to use the screen to connect to my LCD TV. So I took some time to play with him. It is a pity that my DVD just happens to have an optical digital audio output, while digital sound on DVD in the Sony unit can only accommodate standard RCA inputs on the digital. Otherwise it works pretty well overall. 23 of 27 people found this review helpful. Not all the works of Jacob A. McFarland I bought this product and received quickly from Amazon when I first plugged it in, I found that it would not go through the HDMI input of my Philips DVD player or pass through RCA video. I spoke with Sony customer support for two hours and they said it was defective. So Amazon sent me another one that came quickly. This will pass through RCA video, but still not pass through HDMI for my DVD player. I'm sure that Sony is trying to give you a Sony DVD player to buy. Good Stuff - Cheap - Everything else works fine bad things - HDMI not working - sound quality is not as well - connections on the back are not well organized all 56 reviews ....
