View back panel CINEMA DSP Digital for Enhanced Surround Realism Conventional multi-channel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha CINEMA DSP is much more advanced, actually creating richly realized independent sound fields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects ideally located in these separate sound fields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and startlingly realistic presence. It will seem as if the walls of your room have disappeared and you are in the middle of your own immense theater. SILENT CINEMA and Virtual CINEMA DSP SILENT CINEMA, a variation of Yamaha's CINEMA DSP technology, makes it possible to listen in private to movies and other multi-channel sources for hours without listening fatigue. Virtual CINEMA DSP lets you enjoy the effects of CINEMA DSP surround sound without using surround speakers (handy for use in custom installations where some rooms don't have surround speakers). It can be used with the front / center / presence speakers or even with just the two front left and right speakers. Adaptive DRC (Dynamic Range Control) Yamaha's Adaptive DRC technology automatically adjusts the dynamic range of the sound according to the volume that is selected. Adaptive DRC refines the dynamic range parameters to make low volume sounds easier to hear (narrower dynamic range) while retaining the massiveness felt during high volume (wider dynamic range). And because our ears lose sensitivity to low and high sounds as volume decreases, it continually adjusts these frequency ranges according to the volume and to the input signal level. Compressed Music Enhancer Refreshes Your Music Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms to enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3 and WMA. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life to be as close to the original as possible. SCENE: A New Level of Operating Ease Four SCENE buttons make operating the receiver easier than ever. They are initially set to default settings for DVD Viewing, Disc Listening, TV Viewing and Radio Listening. Push a SCENE button to automatically launch play of the preset source. Other SCENE settings are also available, such as iPod Listening, XM Listening, TV Sports Viewing and Action Game Playing. Browse and select the settings quickly accomplished by rotating the Input knob and watching the on-screen display. The settings can be selected for one-time use, or they can replace the original default settings. You can even change the SCENE names for convenience. Audio Delay Compensation Keeps Your Experience On Track The latest display devices perform complex internal processing, causing time lag in the video signal. It is a small difference, but because the audio arrives first, the viewer may feel that something is not natural. The Audio Delay function for adjusting Lip-Sync matches the audio to the timing of the output of the video on the screen (0-240ms). Eco-Friendly Design Auto Power Down after 4, 8 or 12 hours (selectable) and extremely low power consumption make this an environmentally friendly receiver. Expand Your Yamaha System with Convenient Connectivity The optional YDS-12 Universal Dock lets you connect your iPod or iPhone to the receiver. And the YDS-12 is "Works with iPhone"-certified, so you can get the most out of your iPhone music library with zero hassles. The optional YBA-10 Bluetooth Wireless Audio Receiver docks to the receiver and supports A2DP stereo audio streaming, so users can enjoy music wirelessly from Bluetooth-enabled smartphones, Windows PCs, and Macs. Excellent entry-level receivers TA Clark, I wanted something that would handle my game plan too good for movies and television, and are easy enough to use my wife and kids can enjoy without feeling intimidated. I wanted a receiver that would be easy to maintain and manage the calls, and this really fit the bill perfectly. Setup was incredibly easy. For the 360 and PS3 all I had to do was just HDMI cables to the inputs of the receiver, and then another HDMI cable to the TV-out, and it was ... everything was ready to go for the connections. The display is clear and easy to understand, and the speaker configuration as it is easy to set up and managed in a way that makes it a breeze to suit your needs. If you just want to start, not a fancy setup, AV, and want something that sounds good and is future proof for a reasonable price, I could not find a better way to proceed with this receiver I have just set up with only 2 Library speakers before because of my living arrangement, and still sounds amazing even at low volume. It has a lot of battles and dialogue is crystal clear when you watch movies and TV, much better than I had before. I'm really, really happy with him. A fan might want to look at the higher end models, but for someone just trying to start a better home theater this is a great way to go. 7 of 7 people found this review helpful. Good starting ... D. Corleone I bought this to replace my Denon AVR-1910th I knew I would step down in quality and performance, but I seem to like it better than my Denon receiver! Yes, it is an entry-level receiver but it is fantastic for all those in HT for the first time step instructions are confusing, but I think I was just contemplating a few things because I was using by Denon. The show is great for the price. I went from a 6.1 setup on a 3.1 receiver and play my Blu-ray better than I expected. Music sounds great too. I do not care CinemaDSP with one of the things I play everything on the "Straight" mode, and all sounds should be. Advice to beginners get HT, great sounding speaker first focus, then to the receiver. It's great if you spend most of your budget on HT speakers (like me). Recommended. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. solid entry-level AV receiver from M. Hadeishi I needed to use an entry-level AV receiver home theater, while I was visiting another city for several months for the work I have an Onkyo high-end device that I use for the home theater. I had not expected it, given its extremely low prices, but I was pleasantly surprised both by the multitude of functions and settings, and sound quality. It has four HDMI inputs, is very easy to use, are optical and coaxial digital audio, and even Bluetooth connectivity, and optional iPod / iPhone dock. There is a wide range of DSP settings. In fact, I had this as part of the set of Yamaha home theater --- again, not expecting much given the low price, but the sound quality is very impressive for the money. Mids and clear highs, these speakers are cheap --- for the bass drone and a bit muddy, but you can not have everything at this price. You can be more expensive speakers, of course, to this unit and you will get even better results. I have to hand it to Yamaha for making a solid entry-level device See all 14 reviews ....
